Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has decided to increase the capacity of its steel plant at Rourkela from the present 2.1 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes per annum.

The fact came to light when SAIL Chairman S.K. Roongta and Managing Director of Rourkela Steel Plant B.N. Singh met Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in New Delhi on Thursday.

The two officials informed Patnaik that the capacity enhancement of RSP will be done with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.

Patnaik suggested the officials to adopt the existing ITIs of Sundergarh district and also launch mobile medical units in each block of the district to deal with the common ailments like malaria.

The Chief Minister also asked the SAIL Chairman to take up afforestation work in the periphery area of the RSP in a big way, according to an official release by the State government.
