Bhubaneswar, July 15: Dharmapada - The legendary you icon, an animated Odia feature film on Odisha's one of the most powerful and touching stories of all times, would just not be a movie to provide entertainment to the kids but also to spread a message about sacrifice and solution.
“Through this movie, we want to spread a message that every child is special and he/she has some exceptional talents and it must be explored by every parent. Nowadays there are lots of opportunities for youngsters in various fields and the parents should assist them in achieving their respective goals,” debutante director of the animated movie Pradip Tripathy told KalingaTimes.com here on Monday.
Being produced by Bhubaneswar-based Institute of Digital Media Technology, the film will be released for the international audience at New York Times Square by the end of this year, Tripathy informed, adding that the movie is expected to be released in Odia language on April 1 next year. |
IDMT has also plans to screen the movie for tribal children in various tribal districts of the state, Tripathy informed.
For further promotion of the movie across the globe, IDMT will launch two websites www.dharmapadafilm.in and www.dharmapadafilm.com on July 29 this year, said Tripathy.
Dharmapada is being produced in four languages - Odia, Hindi, Bengali and English and it contains seven tracks. The total budget of the project is a whooping Rs 1.5 crore. Popular Odia music director Swarup Nayak has composed the music and the story is penned by Sahadev Sahu, former chief secretary of Government of Odisha.
Throwing more light on the project, Tripathy informed that it will be a 90-minute feature film. The much-needed research work for the project has been done by Balaram Mishra, a renowned author and the editing is being taken care of by Surendra Sahu.
“Originality has been our top-most priority,” said Tripathy while maintaining that it would have been easier and cost-effective for them to produce the film in one language and then either dub the film or use sub-title in other languages.
But in both these cases, the original flavour, which is maintained by lip-movement of the characters of the animated films, would be lost. "Hence, our aim is to prepare the four films separately," he clarified.
Dharmapada is the state's first animated feature film and 2D-technology is being used for the venture.
The story is about a 12-year-old boy who sacrificed his life to save a taskforce of 1200 sculptors, artists and architects engaged to build the famous Black Pagoda Konark.
The film will surely ignite young minds and give a boost to the creative genius of the youth, said Tripathy, adding that it would be a perfect tribute to the legendary boy hero Dharmapada.
Apart from the entertainment aspect, the other benefits that the film is all set to usher in are huge employment opportunities and generation of interest for such high-tech ventures.
As many as 200 technical and non-technical persons are engaged for pre-production, production and post-production works.
“All the talents used in the feature film are local. The animation film will undoubtedly encourage the local artists, students, housewives, professionals and craft designers to take up animation as a profession and ensure a lot of recognition, fame, employment opportunities and flow of international assignments into the state," said Tripathy.
Speaking about the future projects of the organisation, Tripathy said three more animated movies are in the pipeline, and the next project of IDMT is Samrat Ashoka. The scripting and research work of the film is in progress, he informed.
