Bhubaneswar, Nov. 11: Armed Maoists have killed four persons and injured two others in Rayagada district of Odisha.
According to preliminary reports, about 50 Maoists descended on Pandratola village on Tuesday night and killed four the four persons suspecting to be police informers and exploiters of the tribal people.
The Maoists also put up posters in the village opposing the appointment of tribal youths as Special Police Officers in the state police to take on the Maoists.
It is also being said that the killings were against the police action against the Maoists in the recent months. While three of the four victims died on the spot another breathed his last in a government hospital during the day, police said.
One of the four persons shot dead by the Maoists worked as a Special POlice Officer in the state police.
Early on Tuesday, the Maoists had blown up a bridge that was under construction over a rivulet in Malkangiri district in a bid to prevent the police from having easy access to their strongholds. However, no one was injured in the incident.
