Koraput: Two children of a family were trampled to death by wild elephants in Kusumbhatta village of Orissa's Koraput district on Monday night sending shockwaves among the people in the region.

Eight-year-old Kaushalya Santa and her brother Gupta Santa (7) died when elephants crushed near their house.

This is the second such incident in Kusumbhatta. A woman of the village was killed by wild elephants in a similar fashion on January 5.

Horrified villagers fled the village after the elephants from the nearby forests entered the area and killed the two children. They, however, have since returned to their homes.

In another incident in Anandpur Block of Keonjhar district a horde of wild elephants have created havoc by damaging about 20 houses during the past few days. The elephants were entering the tiny villages during night in search of fodder, sources said.
