Bhubaneswar, Sep 22: Orissa Government on
Saturday allotted 185.970 acres of land near
Naraj Barrage in favour of Sri Sri Ravishankar
Vidya Mandir Trust for establishment of the
proposed Sri Sri University of Art of Living.
Acting on a representation made by the
Vidya Mandir Trust to allot the land at
a concessional rate, the State Cabinet decided
that the land be provided for the proposed
university on lease subject to payment of
premium of Rs 6 crore.
The Vidya Mandir Trust had signed a memorandum
of understanding (MoU) with the State Government
on December 12 last year when the government
had promised to provide land for the university
project.
The MoU was signed in the presence Chief
Minister Naveen Patnaik and Sri Sri Ravi
Shankar.
Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir Trust
was founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1999
as the educational wing of the Art of Living.
While singing the MoU, the Trust had announced
that the proposed university will be a multi-disciplinary
world class institution with a blend of
both traditional and modern.
The university, which will have separate
centres of excellence in various fields
of education, will offer courses in subjects
ranging from ayurveda and yoga to biotechnology
and aviation.
