Orissa Governor, CM felicitate KISS rugby team

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3: The rugby team of the city-based Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) that won the Touraid U14 Cup in London was given a rousing welcome upon their arrival here on Wednesday.

The 12-member team comprising of tribal students KISS, accompanied by their coach R. K. Nayak was received by a large number of sports enthusiasts at Biju Patnaik airport here.

On Saturday last, the KISS team defeated the favorites South Africa 19-05 in the final played in London to clinch the U14 Rugby Cup.


Teams from 10 different nations such as Children from Cambodia, Kenya, India, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Romania, Rwanda, Swaziland, South Africa and Zambia participated in the tournament.

The jubilant boys were escorted to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's residence where they were given a warm welcome.

Congratulating the team members, Patnaik wished them all the best in their future fixtures.

A felicitation ceremony was also organised at Raj Bhavan. Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Governor M. C. Bhandare termed the success unprecedented.

The team, which is popularly called as Jungle Crows, proved that they are in fact tigers, Bhandare said.

"Our boys have brought laurel and glory to the country," said KISS founder A. Samanta.

From Raj Bhavan, the team was taken in a procession to the KISS campus where the students of KISS and KIIT University greeted the boys.

The team has been invited to play a series of friendly matches in South Africa later this year.
