However, with the incident slowly becoming a prestige issue for the police, two close relatives of gangster Raja Acharya, who emerged as prime suspect in the case, were arrested in two different cases.
Sources in police believed that the arrest of the two associates could lead to the arrest of Acharya.
However, police appeared to be puzzled over different assumptions.
While 'love-case' involving album actress Leslie Tripathy, the gangster and late entrant Das, was on top of mind of investigators, the sleuths investigating in to the matter were also looking into clash of interests in railway scrap smuggling as another angle.
Whatever be the reason, there was no trace of any lead in the case, sources said. They, however, said that the top brass of Bhubaneswar police were hopeful about solving the murder mystery soon.
Meanwhile, public pressure was mounting over the investigators to resolve the case. This made the top brass to converge in a meeting on Monday.
While raids were conducted at several places in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack , police also tried to come gather information regarding activities of with other criminal gangs that were opposed to Raja Acharya group.
Sources said three vital eyewitnesses in the murder were also shielded by police in their attempt not to put the investigation process in jeopardy.
During the day, the body of the victim was taken to the Judo Association premises after post-mortem was conducted at the city's Capital hospital here where he declared `brought dead' on Sunday evening.
Hundreds of students of the late judo coach paid tributes to their trainer before the body was taken to Swarg Dwar in Puri for cremation. The cremation took place in Puri late in the afternoon.
In another development, main Opposition Congress termed the incident shocking.
Leader of Opposition J.B. Patnaik blamed the police administration for their failure to prevent such an incident in the city.
