Gangster claims he was framed in coach murder

KalingaTimes Correspondent
Bhubaneswar, May 11: Gangster Raja Acharya, main accused in the murder of Judo coach Biranchi Das, on Sunday said the case had nothing to do with illegal trading in scrap or any land deal.

Talking to reporters during his medical examination at a government-run hospital here, the accused hinted that the cause behind the murder of the former trainer of marathon kid Budhia Singh was dispute over funds of Budhia Singh Trust and actor Leslie.

The matter pertaining to the Trust funds totaling to around Rs 9 crore was discussed in two meetings held at Bhubaneswar Club some days before the coach was murdered, he alleged.

Those who attended the meeting include senior bureaucrat Priyabrata Patnaik, actor Leslie and music video producer Jubilee Sundaray, the accused alleged. He was present at both the meetings, he said.

He further alleged that the three had threatened him to frame him in the murder of the coach if he did not withdraw his threat of releasing an MMS to the media. The obscene video allegedly featured Leslie for whom the gangster had developed infatuation.

The accused had also taken the names of the three persons the day he was brought to Orissa from Goa .

As regards the statement of Chagala, another accused who had named him as the main accused in the case, the gangster said that he could have said that under some pressure.

Asked about his alleged links with former Police Commissioner Binay Behera, the gangster replied in the negative.

He also said that he had no links with the Biju Janata Dal.

The accused, who had denied his involvement in the murder during his interrogation, said that he was willing to be put under lie detection, narco-analysis and brain-mapping tests.

He, however, rejected the claim of Orissa police that he had been arrested in Goa, and said he surrendered before the Goa police.

The gangster, who was produced before the court at the end of his police custody remand, was remanded to judicial custody.
