Kendrapara (Orissa), May 14: In a seemingly Bollywood thriller style, a jilted lover helped by hired criminals kidnapped a newly married girl at gun point from the groom's house in Halpur village on the outskirts of Kendrapara town on Wednesday afternoon.

A gun-wielding criminal, Prakash Ojha, was later arrested by the local police while the jilted youth and the kidnapped girl were untraceable till late in the evening.

Principal accused Santosh Mallick was infatuated and obsessed with Rebati (not the real name).

Provoked over his beloved's marriage on May 12, Mallick allegedly hatched a conspiracy and hired criminals to elope with the newly-wed.

The kidnapping plot was executed with professional expertise as the miscreants fired gunshots and unleashed terror in the sleepy village.

The panic-stricken groom's family members gave in and allowed the bride to be taken possession by the abductors, police said.

The jilted lover, accompanied by at least five armed criminals, ran away with the newly-wed girl as awe-struck villagers witnessed the melodramatic scene in stunned silence, narrated a police official.

The matter was reported to the police about half-an-hour after the incident.

Nevertheless, one of the hired criminals, Ojha, was intercepted later from the town.

An improvised gun loaded with five live cartridges was recovered from Ojha's possession, police added.

Efforts were on to trace the runaway couple.
