Nine more bodies recovered in Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar, July 4: The divers of Indian Navy on Friday recovered nine more bodies of Greyhound force personnel from Chitrakonda reservoir in Malkangiri district of Odisha taking the death toll in Sunday's Maoist attack to 19.

As many as 19 more Greyhound jawans were still missing, and it was being suspected that they were trapped inside the boat that had sunk in the attack.

According to police sources, efforts by the Navy personnel to lift the boat failed on Friday.
The authorities are now planning to procure balloons from Singapore to be used in lifting the ill-fated boat. The balloons will be used in the search operation on Sunday.

A total of 66 persons – two Odisha police Constables, three boatmen and remaining Greyhound jawans – were travelling in the boat when the vessel was attacked Maoists.

The Left wing extremists had attacked the boat from a hilltop when the boat was passing through a narrow passage in the reservoir in the cut-off area near Chitrakonda town. While 28 persons were rescued, the remaining had gone missing.
