`Bhubaneswar will be developed as an ideal city'

Bhubaneswar, July 15: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said that a series of measures were being taken to develop Bhubaneswar as an ideal city.

Laying down the foundation stone for the Rs 754.23 integrated sewerage system for the city, Patnaik said while enjoying the status of a preferred tourist destination Bhubaneswar had also grown as a major IT hub and a destination for technical education.

It had become necessary to develop adequate infrastructure in the city as its population had started growing by the day, Patnaik said.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur had been given the task for preparing a master plan for the city and they were likely to submit their report soon, Patnaik said.

The integrated sewerage system project for the city would be completed by 2011. The sewerage system will be developed by dividing the city into six different zones.

The funds for the project would come from the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and the State Finance Commission.

Among others who were present at the foundation stone laying ceremony include state Urban Development Minister Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, Rural Development Minister Biswabhushan Harichandan and Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Kumar Patsani.
